Description: The mobilization of 26 million soldiers, meanwhile, led to the employment of a labor force composed of women, children and the elderly in order to meet the needs of agriculture and the war industry. Two major events were to change the course of the war during this period: in April 1917, the United States entered the war, as evoked by the last pit, and the same year, the October Revolution led Russia to withdraw from the combat.
